Secret Nature Trails in Glades County

Lake Okeechobee nature trails

A hidden trail to scenic beauty

Being a nature lover I spend a good amount of time walking trails in and around Lakeport, Florida and other parts of Glades County. Some rarely travelled. It offers me both peace of mind and good health. I am no longer living here full time but I do visit and appreciate even more the spectacular scenery of this region. Here is a trail so close to my house for sale on Harper Lane it is like a city block away yet so few people have seen the vistas I have seen. The first thing to know it is the levy service “road” on the south side of Harney Pond Canal extending two miles before it ends at a small damn with pools of fish at the boundaries of Seminole Country. Along the way are the views of the waterway, sometimes boaters, but mostly gators or birds and fish. On the other side are views from above of the vast and open lands below of Brighton Indian Reservation, their cattle and pastures and sugar cane operations. Open skies of blue contrasting with green fields polarize your world. A look back at the bridge on Highway 78 at Harney Pond, and you see Lakeport sparkles in the sun.
